Cena proves he’s too busy for WWE by doing Fallon in his Peacemaker costume

The Tonight Show’s YouTube channel

He promises he’ll be back in WWE ASAP though.

Yesterday (Feb. 1), John Cena hyped his new gig as Mountain Dew’s Super Bowl pitchman while dispelling reports he’s “a lock” for a match at WrestleMania 37.

The reason he gave for being mathematically incapable of working in Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on April 11 & 12 is his work shooting HBO Max’s Peacemaker series in Canada. Cena says that will continue until July so the show can premiere after the movie his character debuts in, The Suicide Squad, comes out in August.

In a move I’m choosing to interpret as a way to prove just how busy writer/director James Gunn is keeping him, Cena did his latest appearance on The Tonight Show not only via satellite – but in his full Peacemaker costume!

He again ruled out ‘Mania, but vowed to be back:

“Yeah, I will. Just unfortunately, you know, the state of the world – I mean, I’m not sitting there on the couch next to you – it’s a difficult and unpredictable time, and right now I’m doing this, filming Peacemaker, and that’s gonna take a lot of my time. I can’t bounce back and forth due to international restrictions. So at least for the time being, I’m here and I’m still away from WWE. But I very much look forward to returning as soon as I possibly can.”

Cena’s obviously working hard, but is he working us about this year’s Showcase of the Immortals? We’ll find out in a few months.

In the meantime, we have his Major Melon commercial to look forward to this weekend, and lots of Peacemaker later this year.

And if Cena’s chat with Jimmy Fallon doesn’t get you excited to see him play this “douchey, bro-y Captain America” (who seems to have a giant John Cena action figure in the single-wide trailer he calls home)… I don’t know what to tell you.
