Zelina Vega on her WWE release: ‘I’m completely heartbroken’

Earlier today, WWE announced the release of Zelina Vega. While no reason was stated, it seemed clear it was related to her usage of Twitch. It seems only fitting, then, that she streamed live on that platform and responded to the release for the first time just a short while ago.

She made clear she’s not retiring from professional wrestling in an emotional talk with her subscribers:

“I’m sad. I’m completely heartbroken. But obviously this isn’t the last you’re going to see of me. I don’t know what the future is going to hold. … If I go down as someone who stood up for themselves then, you know, so be it. But I’m so thankful. I’m not angry, I’m just heartbroken. Because doing this, being a wrestler is all I ever wanted to do. So I don’t really know what to say, I don’t really know…”

She made clear she has nothing bad to say, even if that’s what some people tuned in for. Instead, she spoke on being so grateful to do what she set out to do so long ago, becoming a WWE star, actually living out her dream.

It didn’t end up the way she wanted, but that certainly isn’t something anyone can say is her fault. This could very well be the tip of the iceberg for WWE regarding its issues with how the company treats its independent contractors.

Speaking of which, Andrew Yang has already spoken out on this:

We’ll see what’s to come of that in the very near future.

For now, Zelina Vega is free to stream on Twitch and do whatever she likes without having to worry about upsetting her bosses. And there will certainly be plenty of interest in her from every pro wrestling company out there.

Stay tuned.
