Big E wins the Intercontinental championship
When The New Day were split up in the last WWE draft, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston were sent off to Monday Night Raw while Big E remained on Friday Night SmackDown. The natural assumption was that E, a supremely talented individual, would finally get a big push as a singles star. Rumors and reports seemed to back that up.
That push hasn’t exactly amounted to much, but that’s all changing now.
Indeed, Big E is the new Intercontinental champion after defeating Sami Zayn in a Lumberjack match in the main event of this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown. “The prophecy is fulfilled,” E told Corey Graves at ringside after winning. “I told you! I told you, baby! I told you!”

All the babyface wrestlers who were acting as lumberjacks for the match celebrated in the ring with him to end the show, lifting him up on their shoulders while confetti rained down in the ThunderDome.
This is Big E’s second run with the title. He first won it all the way back in 2013 before The New Day formed. That run, in fact, made clear that he’s got what it takes to be a legitimate star all on his own. Now, he’s got that much more experience under his belt.
This could be big.
