Charlotte Flair & Asuka win in their first defense of the tag team titles

FOX

The first title match of the Charlotte Flair & Asuka Era for the WWE women’s tag team titles came in the form of a triple threat elimination match on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown. The teams were mismatched and, in fact, not even tag teams at all.

Bianca Belair linked up with current SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks while Bayley get together with Carmella to challenge the newly crowned champs. The latter team was first out, with Belair pinning Bayley.

That left Belair and Banks, who were victims of outside interference in the form of both Reginald, Carmella’s assistant, and Bayley, who has been feuding with Belair. It only makes sense, then, that the two teams who aren’t actually teams came up short against the tag team champs.

Even though they aren’t really a team either.

It’s at least worth noting that the Riott Squad were shown watching all this backstage, so perhaps that team, which actually is a team, will be getting a chance sooner rather than later.

Stay tuned.
