Goldberg returns to challenge McIntyre for the WWE championship
WWE booked this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw around a group of returning Legends, sure, but they ended up playing supporting roles focusing on the main event: Drew McIntyre vs. Keith Lee for the WWE championship.
Hulk Hogan put McIntyre over huge while Lee was left to get hyped by, uh, Matt Riddle. Despite that latter point, the match was treated like a legitimately big showcase and Lee presented like a worthy challenger. They were given roughly a half hour, and all the Legends sat at the top of the stage to watch.
What they were treated to was a physical, back-and-forth battle of attrition. There wasn’t ever really any doubt that McIntyre was going to retain the title, which is just what he did after a Claymore off the ropes, but Lee did one hell of a job in there in a big match.
And then Goldberg returned.
WOW. @Goldberg wants @DMcIntyreWWE for the #WWEChampionship at #RoyalRumble?! #WWERaw pic.twitter.com/QcrQEZsscg

He claimed McIntyre doesn’t have enough respect for the Legends who returned and he wants to challenge him for a WWE championship match at Royal Rumble on Jan. 31. McIntyre claimed it would be like fighting his own dad, Goldberg pushed him down, and the show went off the air.
This completely overshadowed what I thought was a strong performance from Lee but hey, this is WWE. We know the deal by now.
