AEW Rankings: PAC breaks in
AEW released their latest rankings (Jan. 20, 2021). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.
Men:
Brian Cage is out of the top 5 due to his loss to Darby Allin. The Machine’s quest to capture the TNT Championship failed on that evening. Ricky Starks moved into #4, previously held by his Team Taz cohort. PAC’s win over Eddie Kingston gave him the juice to crack the rankings.
#3 Cody Rhodes will put his dashing good looks to the test against pretty Peter Avalon tonight on Dynamite. #1 Jon Moxley will also be in action. I think it is safe to assume both top guys will be victorious.
The intrigue for next week will be MJF’s position at #2. Would two victories by Cody be enough to push him past his former protege? If MJF and Chris Jericho win the Inner Circle’s tag team three-way, then would that drop MJF from the singles rankings since his focus would be on winning gold as a duo?
Women:
We have a new #1 in the women’s rankings. Serena Deeb replaced Big Swole in the top spot, and rightfully so. Deeb’s NWA championship defense against Tay Conti was a strong victory. Anna Jay replaced Abadon at #5.
#4 Penelope Ford will have her work cut out for her tonight as a late replacement for Nyla Rose against Leyla Hirsch. Ford is definitely the favorite, but Hirsch is no joke. Ford may also have to deal with Chuck Taylor ringside as Miro’s bumbling butler. If Miro was smart, he wouldn’t trust Taylor to be anywhere near the match.
Tag Team:
The Acclaimed swapped spots with the Dark Order. That seems to be a simple case of being more active.
#5 Santana & Ortiz will basically be putting their ranking on the line against Jericho & MJF and Sammy Guevara & Jake Hager. The winner will become the Inner Circle’s official tag team representative and should also be ranked next week.
Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
