AEW Rankings: Status quo

All Elite Wrestling

AEW released their latest rankings (Sep. 30, 2020). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.

Men:

 AEW

No movement for the men again. There is an outside chance for a major upset when Jon Moxley defends his AEW World Championship tonight on Dynamite against someone of Eddie Kingston’s choosing.

Scorpio Sky has a title bout tonight as well, but that will be in tag action alongside Frankie Kazarian. Sky’s next singles feud seems it will be with a different steed in Tully Blanchard’s stable. Shawn Spears hasn’t forgotten Sky preventing extra punishment to Matt Sydal.

Looking to the future for the rest of the top 5, Lance Archer should get his title shot against Moxley on October 14, assuming Archer recovers from a COVID positive test. I’m expecting Darby Allin to get past Ricky Starks tonight and be on a collision course with Brian Cage for the Full Gear PPV on November 7. Cody Rhodes will have his hands full with Mr. Brodie Lee in a dog collar match. The question will be if that takes place on the Dynamite anniversary show or the upcoming PPV.

That leaves MJF twisting in the wind. There is a good chance he is in line for a rematch against Moxley at the PPV. The problem is that he needs to prove himself again to show the match result will be different. AEW should spend some time developing MJF with quality wins before another title shot.

Women:

 AEW

Penelope Ford jumped over Abadon to become #3. I would assume inactivity from Abadon would be the reason.

As for Hikaru Shida’s next challenger, nobody has shown to be head and shoulders above the rest. I’d like to see Nyla Rose and Big Swole duke it out for the honor.

Tag Team:

 AEW

The tag team lineup remains the same. FTR defends against SCU tonight.

Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
