CMLL Roundup: Ultimo Guerrero retains gold, Angel de Oro goes rudo to win Leyenda Azul, more!
CMLL took some time off from their weekly PPV schedule then roared back into business Friday night (Nov. 27, 2020) with a heated heavyweight title tilt, the Leyenda Azul 2020 torneo cibernetico, a cat fight, and a non-title champ versus champ duel for the women. Let’s break down the results.
Euphoria was tired of being in Ultimo Guerrero’s shadow. They are currently the World Trios champs along with Gran Guerrero, but Euphoria wanted a taste of Ultimo Guerrero’s World Heavyweight title. That led to the two gladiators getting it on in the main event of the evening.
The first fall saw lots of submission work and loud grunting as Euphoria edged out his captain. The second fall was flashier with big moves bouncing off the ropes. Ultimo Guerrero got back in the game with an octopus submission. The final fall featured heavy blows. In the climax, Euphoria hit a pumphandle slam, but Ultimo Guerrero kept his wits to sneak in a crucifix pin to win. These highlights are pretty solid and make the match look very interesting.
Afterward, Euphoria buried the bad blood with a handshake of respect. Ultimo Guerrero continues his reign at 774 days. Nueva Generación Dinamita came out desiring a shot at the CMLL World Trios Championship. Backstage, Ultimo Guerrero accepted the challenge on behalf of his crew.
The feature attraction was a torneo cibernetico to crown the 2020 winner of the Leyenda Azul. Participants included Angel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Terrible, Sanson, Diamante Azul, Valiente, Cuatrero, Forastero, Kraneo, Blue Panther Jr., Rey Bucanero, Vangellys, Guerrero Maya, Stuka Jr., Cancerbero, and Ephesto.
The final two came down to Angel de Oro and Diamante Azul. Angel and his brother, Niebla Roja, have been dabbling on the rudo side as of late, and this finish cements their diabolical status. Diamante had Angel up in a gorilla press position. Niebla ran down the ramp to cause a distraction so Terrible could kick Diamante in the jewels. Angel picked up the cheap pin to win the Leyenda Azul trophy.
If you are a fan of cats, then CMLL has a treat for you. Blue Panther & Black Panther competed in a tag team duel against Felino & Tiger. Leave it to felines to get felonious. The 60-year-old Blue Panther bit the boot of Felino. Tiger picked up the deciding pinfall using la casita on Blue Panther. Check out the highlights, right meow.
The opener was a non-title champ versus champ affair as world champ Princesa Sugehit battled national champ Reyna Isis. Sugehit earned the first fall with an octopus stretch. Isis rallied with a low-angle surfboard variation to even the score. In the end, Sugehit proved why she is top dog by wrapping Isis’ arm backward for a rocking submission victory.
Who would you like to see be the next challenger for Ultimo Guerrero? Will you still root for Angel de Oro despite his rudo turn?
